Kaneki Ken, is still grappling with his newfound identity as a half-ghoul, a creature that survives by consuming human flesh. Volume 2 explores his struggles to come to terms with his new nature, his need for sustenance, and the moral dilemmas he faces as he tries to balance his human emotions with his ghoul instincts.

As the story unfolds, Kaneki finds himself drawn into the complex dynamics of the ghoul underworld, encountering various factions, each with their own motives and agendas. The tension between ghouls and the human organization dedicated to eradicating them escalates, leading to intense battles and suspenseful confrontations. The Commission of Counter Ghoul (CCG), an organization dedicated to eradicating ghouls, becomes more prominent. The CCG continues its investigation into recent ghoul activities, and one of their investigators, Kureo Mado, plays a significant role in this volume.

Kaneki becomes more integrated into the ghoul society when he starts working at Anteiku Cafe, a gathering place for ghouls that also serves as a front for their activities. He meets other ghouls with unique personalities and backgrounds, gradually forming connections within this hidden community. Kaneki forms a mentor-student relationship with Touka Kirishima, a waitress at Anteiku and a ghoul who helps him navigate his new life. Their interactions provide insight into the struggles and nuances of being a ghoul. Kaneki also encounters Nishiki Nishio, another ghoul with a complex history.

This volume introduces the "Gourmet," a powerful and enigmatic ghoul who is known for his sophisticated taste in consuming specific parts of other ghouls. Kaneki inadvertently crosses paths with the Gourmet, leading to a tense confrontation that tests Kaneki's strength and determination.
