In The Death Trilogy Overture, Soul Reapers aren't merely fighting Hollows, they are charged with the grand task of equalizing the balance between this life and the next. When Orihime and Chad are both awake Urahara tells them that their natural spiritual abilities were pulled out of them through contact with Ichigo because of his uncontrolled high levels of spiritual output. We are introduced to the Soul Society arc, where Rukia is taken back to the Soul Society to face punishment for transferring her Soul Reaper powers to Ichigo. In order to save Rukia, Ichigo and his friends embark on a rescue mission, diving into the intricacies of the Soul Society and its hierarchy. On infiltrating the Soul Society, Ichigo and his companions encounter formidable Soul Reapers, including Captains and Lieutenants of the Gotei 13.
